Types of Pain We Treat

🟢 Acute Pain

Acute pain comes on suddenly, is usually sharp or pulling in nature, and is your body’s alarm system. It lasts for a short time — from minutes to weeks — and signals injury or strain.

Common causes:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Fractures
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Ligament or tendon injuries

🟠 Chronic Pain

Chronic pain lingers for months or years, sometimes after an injury has healed or with no clear cause. It can feel dull, throbbing, or aching and may vary in intensity — often affecting both physical and emotional well-being.

Common causes:

  • Arthritis
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Nerve damage
  • Post-surgical complications
  • Obesity-related strain
  • Repetitive stress injuries

🔵 Neuropathic Pain

This type of pain stems from nerve damage. People often describe it as burning, tingling, shooting, or radiating, and it can spread into the arms or legs.

Common causes:

  • Nerve compression from a slipped disc
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Sciatica
  • Cervical radiculopathy
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Multiple sclerosis

🟣 Phantom Pain

Phantom pain is felt in a limb or body part that’s no longer there. Sensations might feel like tingling, cramping, or aching.

Cause:

  • The brain still receives signals from nerves linked to the missing limb.

🟡 Post-Surgical Pain

Pain after surgery is common as the body heals. It can range from mild to severe and is often linked to inflammation, scar tissue, or tissue repair.

Common causes:

  • Tissue healing and inflammation
  • Scar tissue formation
  • Infection

🔴 Visceral Pain

Visceral pain comes from internal organs. It tends to be dull, cramping, or achy, and may feel vague or hard to pinpoint.

Common causes:

  • Menstrual cramps
  • Endometriosis
  • Muscle spasms in internal organs
  • Heart attack
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI) causing abdominal or pelvic pain
